Freaky Friday February Feast
Local community and social group, Maidenhead Rotaract will be enjoying a somewhat unusual Feast on February Friday the Thirteenth.
The “unlucky for some” day is being marked by the club with members cooking a variety of unusual food for each other to try.
Club President, Lisa Burnett, commented “we’re all really looking forward to this slightly mad event and to tasting food we wouldn’t normally consider eating. I’m going to be cooking a form of shellfish that has come all the way from Singapore and can’t wait to see everyone’s faces as they take their first bite!”
There is however a serious side to this event, those taking part will be making a donation to Maidenhead Rotaract to assist with their annual fundraising.
This year the club are supporting the Alexander Devine Children’s Cancer Trust, a charity set up in memory of a little boy called Alexander. Alexander was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in November 2001 at the tender age of just four years and after a long battle against his illness he sadly passed away. In honour of his outstanding courage and strength his parents have formed this trust. The long term is to build and fund a Children’s Hospice service in the Berkshire area.
Maidenhead Rotaract Club is also looking for new members to join in the fun. It is a dynamic international organisation that provides an opportunity for men and women aged 18‑30 to meet new people, take part in a wide range of events and get involved with the local and international community.
A Rotaract club’s activities are decided by its members and are always varied and great fun. Maidenhead Rotaract have recently taken part in a sponsored swim, been Sno-Tubing, organised collections for local charities, helped on environmental projects, and had speakers from local charities. You name it and Rotaract have either done it, are doing it, or are organising to do it again!
Some events planned for the future include bowling, cinema trips, ice-skating, a weekend away in Torquay, a charity casino night, a weekend away in Cardiff and taking part in a sponsored 24 hour technology famine.
